TREATING OUR CHILDREN AS GIFTS DESPITE BEING 'BUSY'

How do we have intentional time with our children when we have so much we are responsible for? Earlier this week I was listening to a Rick Warren Podcast that discussed how parents today are spending 22 hours less with their children than 30 years ago. While to some 22 hours may not seem alarming, our children spend more time with others than their parents & parents spending the least amount of time with their children than their co-workers. So how do we have intentional moments with the people in our life that we cherish (or should) the most?
We accept that we cannot do it all and what we can will not be perfect.
It is easy to fall into the trap of focusing on all the things you have to be responsible for and less on how you are spending your time with your children. Recently, I have made it a rule for myself that I am only going to do chores when Charlotte is sleeping or on my lunch break and whatever didn't get done oh well. Learning to accept that my house won't always be "clean" is easier to do when I remind myself that time with my daughter is more important than having a spotless house. In general, we must remind ourselves that we were not created to "handle it all" nor do we have to. We are called to wake up each day, doing our best, and if we find ourselves feeling over stressed than its a good indication we are trying to take on more than what God expects of us and need to release some of those burdens for Him to carry. "For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you" (Isaiah 41:13).
"Our children are a gift from God, they are a reward from Him..." (Psalm 127:3) Each day with our children should be treated as the first day with them was - excited for the responsibilities, attentive to their needs, and not annoyed by their desire for love. I hope that you find new ways to cherish the moments with your children.
